RAFT
RAFT is a universal writing strategy that supports students in developing their writing skills for different audiences and purposes. RAFT is a creative way for students to think critically about new information. It stands for Role, Audience, Format, Topic.

Walk students through the acronym RAFT and why it’s important to consider various perspectives when completing any writing assignment

Display a RAFT writing prompt to your class, and model how you would write in response to the prompt. Example prompts:

Have students react to another writing prompt in pairs or small groups - share responses with the whole class. Continue to review example responses.

As students become comfortable reacting to RAFT prompts, you can create more than one prompt. Varied prompts allow students to compare and contrast multiple perspectives.
