GREAT STUDENT RUBRIC
Instructions
-
Introduce students to the rubric one row at a time. As you introduce a row, discuss the Practitioner column first. Remind students that if they are not yet able to rate themselves as Practitioners, that the Novice and Apprentice columns represent steps in that direction.
-
Have students assess themselves and set a goal. Determine how often you will check in with students about their progress toward that goal.
-
Once students are comfortable working on their skills within the first row, introduce another one. Students can choose to set a new goal or continue working on the first one.
-
Refer back to the rubric frequently, and provide encouragement as students make progress.
Modifications
*As students become more familiar with the Great Student Rubric, they might want to try to design their own version that is more personalized
*You can use whatever attributes/habits are important to you and your students for the rows, just make sure that your criteria are positive and observable. Instead of saying that a student is unprepared for class, say they can show up to class.
