GREAT STUDENT RUBRIC

Instructions

  1. Introduce students to the rubric one row at a time. As you introduce a row, discuss the Practitioner column first. Remind students that if they are not yet able to rate themselves as Practitioners, that the Novice and Apprentice columns represent steps in that direction.

  2. Have students assess themselves and set a goal. Determine how often you will check in with students about their progress toward that goal.

  3. Once students are comfortable working on their skills within the first row, introduce another one. Students can choose to set a new goal or continue working on the first one.

  4. Refer back to the rubric frequently, and provide encouragement as students make progress.

Modifications

*As students become more familiar with the Great Student Rubric, they might want to try to design their own version that is more personalized

*You can use whatever attributes/habits are important to you and your students for the rows, just make sure that your criteria are positive and observable. Instead of saying that a student is unprepared for class, say they can show up to class.
