VISUALIZATION

Instructions

  1. Select a task

  2. Close your eyes

  3. Imagine the physical things that you need to gather

  4. Imagine reading the instructions/prompt again

  5. Imagine doing the work: What do you have to do first? What comes next? Then what?

  6. Imagine turning in the work

  7. Pay attention to how it feels to reach the end of the visualization

Modifications:

*Have students close their eyes and attempt to visualize steps that you describe verbally to them before attempting to generate and visualize steps on their own

* Add a moment for reflection after the task has actually been completed - compare the task to your visualization. Was it easier or harder than you expected? Did it take more or less time than you expected?

* For students with aphantasia, or those who struggle to form mental images, offer the option to write what they will need and what they will do to complete the task
