VISUAL SCHEDULES

Visual schedules can be used to show students what is happening and when, they also provide predictability and promote independence. There are different types of visual schedules that are useful in different situations. The first thing to decide is how many activities to include in the schedule. If you are using a visual schedule for your daily lesson, then you should have an item to represent each transition or learning activity. If you are using a visual schedule to break down a task, then you should have items to represent each step. The visual part of the visual schedule can be photographs, digital images, or symbols. It is most effective to combine these with words. In the example below, the icons represent different types of learning activities and are also printed on the handouts that go with that activity.
