CHECKLISTS
Checklists are a powerful tool for projects that require sequential steps or the completion of multiple smaller tasks. Checklists can help students follow routines, support organizational skills, teach metacognitive skills such as monitoring progress and managing distractions, and eventually build independence. There are many different types of checklists, and they can be combined with other strategies in this playbook to make them even more inclusive. Here are some examples of when you might use checklists:
-
Assignments (science fair, creative writing portfolio, projects)
-
Class activities (discussions, gathering materials, self-assessment)
-
Routines (beginning of class, cleaning up, end of class )
-
Problems (managing stress, getting help)
